Where to stay in Phuket

Phuket is Thailand’s largest island and one of the country’s most popular tourist destinations. It is with good reason that so many people make it top of their lists when choosing where to travel because Phuket offers something for everyone. From peaceful paradise escapes to exciting nightlife, here are L’Amour’s tips for great places to take in all that Phuket has to offer.

The best way to view any sunrise or sunset on Phuket has to be at Promthep Cape. The southern-most tip of the island offers incredible scenery of rugged rocks and green hillsides with scattered palms. From your high vantage-point on the clifftop you can admire the colorful reflection of the rising or setting sun across miles of calm sea water. There are a variety of hotels and resorts nearby to allow you to easily reach this splendid viewpoint and beat the crowds to the most Instagram-worthy locations.

For a vibrant nightlife the best place to head on the island is Patong’s buzzing Bangla Road. Saturated with bars, beach clubs, restaurants, cabarets and nightclubs this bustling city has everything you need for a big night out. Here you will find the characteristic red tuk tuks Thailand is famous for to zip you between a varieties of nightlife hotspots. There are plenty of water sports options available in Patong during the daytime too: jet skis, parasailing and hover boards excite and delight visitors to this busy stretch of beach.

If you’re searching for a more peaceful spot on the island, head to Cape Panwa. Despite its proximity to historic Phuket town, this area of the island is a world away from the busy humdrum of tourists. It sits on an arm of land stretching to the south-east side of the island. Cape Panwa offers high-end resort hotels, small and peaceful beaches and an all-round sophisticated ambience. There is also a great viewing tower nearby, Khao Kad, which offers exceptional views across the Panwa bay overlooked by the infamous Big Buddha perched on the mountaintop. This private luxury area has been frequented by stars such as Leonardo Di Caprio and Catherine Zeta Jones.

For a getaway more intimate than a large resort, be sure to search for exclusive bungalows near Kamala beach. Nestled in the jungle-dense mountainside are all sorts of designer bungalows. From wooden pods with private pools, to glass-fronted accommodations, all focus on the incredible vista out towards Kamala’s serene stretch of sand and the Andaman Sea beyond. Settle in to a home-from-home in style with living area, kitchenette and balcony in the heart of lush vegetation.
